A Love Story

Long, long ago…deep in the Himalayas, the mighty, handsome Shiva, Lord of Lords — one of the Indian Pantheon of Gods — sits deep in meditation inside his cave. The loveliest princess of the realm, Parvathi, is drawn to him and draws near. I will surely seduce him with ease, she thinks. But Shiva does not acknowledge her presence. His body remains motionless, his eyes remain closed.

Deeply hurt, Parvathi withdraws to the forest. There — braving heat, cold, rain, and snow — she undertakes the essential journey, the one within. In time, her heart blossoms and her inner light radiates.

Touched by her power and transformation; Shiva is shaken out of his meditation. His eyes open and he appears before her. Smiling, his hand reaches out.

They both awaken to the power of love…

Xila Apothic’s perfumes summon a woman to the true source of her beauty and brilliance.

Is it possible to bottle being? We think so.

Every exquisite ingredient is soul-selected to meet our exacting standards.

And we always remember that what is inside matters most.

Our Philosophy

We believe the true source of a woman’s allure lies within.

This idea is enshrined in the enchanting Indian love story of Parvathi and Shiva —

Long, long ago … deep in the Himalayas, the mighty, handsome Shiva, Lord of Lords — one of the Indian Pantheon of Gods sits deep in meditation inside his cave.

The loveliest princess of the realm, Parvathi, has endless suitors, but eyes only for Shiva. She draws near. I will surely seduce him with ease, she thinks.

But Shiva does not acknowledge her presence. His body remains motionless; his eyes remain closed.

Parvathi lays succulent fruit at his feet, decorates his cave with garlands, and adorns herself with the finest silks and jewels. Yet Shiva never stirs.

Deeply hurt, she withdraws to the forest. There — braving heat, cold, rain, and snow — she undertakes the essential journey, the one within. In time, her heart blossoms and her inner light radiates.

Touched by her power and transformation, Shiva is shaken out of his meditation. His eyes open and he appears before her. Smiling, his hand reaches out.

And they both awaken to love …

Xila Apothic is about this inner journey. It’s the path of opening your heart, where magic happens.

One drop, one hint … and you’re on your way.

The right fragrance transports us to sacred places within ourselves.

And when a woman connects to her spiritual essence, that’s when she’s most captivating – to herself and to others …

… and that’s when the magic begins.

Our Story

It could be truthfully said that Xila Apothic was created in response to the intense isolation and disconnect of our turbulent times.

But really our story began long before, when our founder, Sri Kudaravalli, who grew up in India, with the twin blessings of a heightened sense of smell and a deeply spiritual nature had her earliest memories of being transported by the intoxicating scents of tuberose, jasmine, roses, frangipani and ripened mangoes in her grandmother’s garden.

After her education and a successful career in New York City; she wove together two of the greatest gifts of Indian culture – its more than 2000-year-old history of natural perfumery and its ancient spiritual traditions – with her passion for neuroscience, olfactory science and psychology.

It was an exciting blend of east and west, ancient and modern, tradition and science, sensuality and spirituality.

Out of this alchemy, Xila Apothic was born.

Why Natural Perfumes?

Because your body is a temple and only the very finest, pure ingredients will do!

Few people realize that, most perfumes sold in the market are a complex cocktail of synthetic chemicals. In fact, 80% – 100% of fragrances are composed of these chemicals – often petrochemicals with crude oil or turpentine oil as their base — and are linked to a long list of medical disorders.

This reality compelled us to create something different — perfumes that are entirely natural, sustainable, and healing.

Our Ingredients

We are blessed that India is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Her sweeping deserts, mountains, swamplands, grasslands, forests and plains produce 47,000 types of flora — a rich palette of oils, resins, woods, grasses, flowers, barks and fruit from which we create.

Our raw materials are sourced from expert botanists who specialize in extracting essences without compromising integrity of ingredients. They carefully select plants native to India and occasionally other countries. All are organic or sustainably farmed and support biodiversity of the habitat as well as the health of local communities.

In creating fine fragrances, many subtleties come into play. Take Tuberose, for example, the delicate white flower often used in bridal bouquets that is central to our White perfume. It has the highest concentration of quality scent in late evening and therefore we go to great lengths to harvest and process it at night. In perfumery as in love, timing is everything!

Another factor is where plants are grown. Lavender found in the high mountains smells different from Lavender in the plains. And though Lavender is widely known to be relaxing, some Lavenders are actually highly stimulating. The right type at the right time can be very pleasing indeed.

Our Process

We use the purest natural ingredients that are hand selected by expert botanists from which the essences are extracted through traditional methods — distillation, infusion, enfleurage, cold-pressing — and advanced technologies like CO2 extraction, to capture the highest quality concentration of essential oils.

Inspired by ancient Indian traditions, we hand-craft fragrances as they were created hundreds of years ago by artisan perfumers — the alchemists, healers, royals, and physicians of their day.

These fine fragrances will recall you to a connection you have had all along, but may have forgotten.

Isn’t it time to come home?
